History The Church of Christ in Killeen was organized in 1884, with four charter members. J.D. Tant, a well-known restoration preacher, claimed in his writings to be the first preacher for the newly formed church. This was in 1886.
In 1893, A.J. McCarty worked with the church and the membership grew to about 150 souls. The church has maintained a place of worship all these years in Killeen. Many well-known preachers have preached in Killeen. Charles Goodnight, Jr., who preached in Killeen for a number of years, wrote a short history of the church in which he included a number of the preachers who have held meetings, or have otherwise spoken here on a number of occasions.
