"COMING DESTRUCTION"

Since the eleventh of September, America, and for that reason most of the world, has been on "High Alert" Status. Killeen certainly is aware of it because Fort Hood is located here--deep in the heart of Texas. Visitors to the reservation are stopped at many check points before they are permitted access to the installation.

Troops are on standby status. I heard yesterday that twenty-five thousand troops are ready to be deployed to Afghanistan.

This past week we remembered our service men and women for their dedication and continued care of this country. Veterans Day has always been--and, we hope will always be remembered in gratitude.

When things happen to us (as the 11th of September) we should come to realize the truth of how short our time on this earth is.

  • There is only a step between me and death (I Samuel 20:3).
  • It is appointed unto men once to die, then comes the judgment (Heb. 9:27)
  • Prepare to meet thy God (Amos 4:12).

These are amazing passages. Everyone should be diligent in reference to that final day. When we see war clouds on the horizon it sends chills down our spin--but, nothing has been seen like the day when our Lord returns. On that day:

  • The heavens shall pass away with a great sound (2 Peter 3:10)
  • The earth shall be burned up (2 Peter 3:10)
  • The day will be a surprise to the inhabitants of earth (Matthew 24:38,39)
  • All-both good and bad- will be judged (John 5:28,29)
  • Hell will receive the evil--heaven will receive the just (Matthew 25:45,46)

"Knowing that these things shall be, what manner of persons should we be in all holy living?" (2 Peter 3:11).

Sometime in the future, our world will end. Where will you live in eternity? This is the question that ought to concern all of us.
