TIME

Time was made for man. "And the evening and morning was the first day" (Genesis 1:5). Before creation, eternity ruled. In eternity we will not need our watches. Eternity will be a continual day for the saved or, a continual night for the unsaved (Matthew 25:46).

In heaven we will live in eternity. There will be no time. No wonder an
old song verse says: "Where we'll never grow old." If there is no time,
then age will not come upon us. By the way, as we think of our solar time as the earth rotates upon its axis to the sun and moves around the sun in orbit, we speak of twenty-four hours in the day and we speak of months and years. The book of Genesis tells us that the sun and moon were stationed in the heavens for times and season. "And God said, let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days and years"(Genesis 1:14). In heaven, there will be no need for the sun
because God is there and time will have ended. In Revelation 22:5, we can read: "And there shall be no night there: and they need not the candle, neither the light of the sun; for the Lord God gives them light."

Time is a strange creature to define. While we try to define the here and now, suddenly it becomes the past. When we speak of the future, it becomes the present and then, the present goes into the past, even as we speak. David said: "So teach us to number our days, that we might apply our hearts to wisdom" (Psalm 90:12).

Our life in time is short. Hear this: "The days of our years are 70 years; and if by strength we attain to 80, we will soon be cut off and fly away" (Psalm 90:10).

The time of our life is also a journey. It is as a man walking between two eternities. Job said: "When a few years are come, I will go the way from which I will not return" (Job 16:22). In Job 14:1, 2, these sober words are penned: "Man being born of woman is but few days, and full of trouble."

It really does not matter how long one lives, here. The point is: How have we lived? Have we prepared for an endless day with God; or, an endless night with the unsaved?

Every man will determine his own course. Staying forever young we cannot. The grave awaits us all. The young and old alike are going down the valley one by one. We are all going toward the setting of the sun.

How are you spending your time?
