THINKING OF HEAVEN

The Sadducees denied the resurrection. They denied the spirit life. To them, this world was about all that man could ever hope to have. The Pharisees believed in the life beyond.

One day, the Sadducees, in order to trap Christ in words, suggested a ridiculous story. They told of a woman who was married to a man and, he died.

Later, according to Jewish Law, she took his brother, seeing that she and the first husband did not have children. Thus, the children by the second brother would be accounted for the dead brother's name.
However, he died. She did not have children by him, so she took the next boy as her husband in order to repeat the process.

This went on for a long time. Finally, after she had been wife to seven brothers, she died (bless her heart, no wonder). Then, they said to Him:
"Whose shall she be, seeing they all had her?"

Jesus showed their foolishness by saying:

"The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage: but they that obtain that world, neither marry, nor are given in marriage: neither can they die any more: for they are equal to the angels" (Luke 22:35,36).

God's people think of heaven often. We desire that home. We have loved ones who have passed over. We desire to be reunited.

  • Part of the joy of being a Christian is the anticipation of heaven. I have so many of my people who have passed over that it makes my desire even greater. O, the thought of being with dad again.
  • Part of the joy of being a Christian is inviting others to go to heaven with us. Thus, we encourage all we see to take the journey with us. Truth is: We cannot stay here. We are leaving the planet...why not go to a lovely placed prepared for those who love and trust God?

Often times, I am asked:

"What is heaven like?"

I answer by saying that all I can know is spoken in the scripture. Some is told, but much is untold. We can know that God, the Father, Christ, the Son and, God, the Holy Spirit will be there. We can know that the angels will be there and all the spirits of just people made perfect will be there.

As one old song suggests: "It's a place where we shall never die...never grow old."

In 2 Corinthians 12, we are given a statement from the apostle Paul, concerning a man, whom he said went to the third heaven (This would be the place of God).

However, as you read the account, it says that he was not permitted to tell the things he heard and saw. Most people believe that Paul was speaking of an experience of his own.

Our dream of heaven, our anticipation of that lovely place, will have to wait until we are there, to be realized.
