"...the churches of Christ salute you..."
Romans 16:16

"THAT WHICH WILL LAST"

"The house of the wicked shall be overthrown, but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish. There is a way which seems right to a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death"-Proverbs 14:11,12.

That which is done for God will last. Just because we do things claiming that we follow Christ, does not mean that it will be accepted. Study closely what is said by Christ in Matthew 7:22,23..."Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in your name, and in your name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, you that work iniquity."

It is not therefore enough just to call upon the name of Christ. We must be in fellowship with him through obedience. The next few verses in Matthew 7 show this to be the case.

Only that which is done in the name, or by the authority, of Christ will stand. Whatever we do must be done in the name (by the authority) of Christ (Colossians 3:17). This is what will last. There may be many things done for the glory and honor of men, but only that which is done for the glory of God will endure.

YOU ARE WRITING A BOOK, A CHAPTER EACH DAY;
BY THE THOUGHTS YOU THINK AND THE WORDS YOU SAY.
PEOPLE READ WHAT YOU WRITE, EITHER FAITHLESS OR TRUE,
SAY, BROTHER, WHAT IS THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO YOU?

I don't know who wrote the above poem but I have had in my mind for years. Perhaps, you have heard it before. It certainly does make a statement...and, it is true.

"You are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men"-2 Corinthians 3:2.

The only thing that will last will be the good works done in the name of Christ. There are things done in his name that glorifies man. If man takes the glory and does not intend to follow the Christ, then in the day of Judgment they will hear the doom..."I know you not."
