"I
CAN'T BELIEVE I ATE THE WHOLE THING"
Some
years ago there was a popular T.V. advertisement in which someone
would make the statement above. We are a nation that enjoys eating.
We have plenty of food and good eating establishments. In my city
alone, the only thing that may out number the eating establishments
would be "used car lots."
There
is nothing wrong with eating. In fact, without eating, one would
die.
Like any thing we do, one can overindulge. For instance, in Matthew
11:19, our Lord makes this statement: "The Son of man came
eating a drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and
a winebibber, a friend of publicans an sinners. But wisdom is justified
of her children." The apostle Paul warned Timothy: "Bodily
exercise profits little; but godliness is profitable unto all
things"--I Timothy 4:8. Paul was not telling Timothy to ignore
his body...when you need to eat--then, eat! Paul was warning Timothy
not to forget the most important...the spirit. God's people must
continue to "seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness"
- Matthew 6:33.
If the average man put as much study in the Bible as did in feeding
the physical body, then he would be equipped to "wrestle
the enemy" and be victorious--Ephesians 6:12.
The Bible warns: "Be not unwise, but understanding what the
will of the Lord is. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess;
but be filled with the Spirit"-Ephesians 5:17, 18. Man must
set priorities. We must decide what is best. John, the apostle,
wrote to a dear friend and brother, Gaius..."Beloved, I wish
above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even
as thy soul prospers"--Third John 2. In stead of be concerned
about what we are going to eat or drink, Christians should fill
their souls with the good things of God...the spiritual, then
all these other things would be taken care of (Matthew 6:33).
The Lord who feeds the birds in the wintertime, will feed us as
well (Matthew 6:26-30).
Stay the course...never give up! The Lord will sustain you. Be
filled with the good things of God. Ask for His help. Put Him
first.
