WHAT
IS THAT IN YOUR HAND?
One of
the most interesting stories in the Old Testament is about Moses
and God's using him for His service to the people of God.
In Exodus 4, after God had spoken to Moses from the burning bush,
Moses argued with God saying: "But, behold, they will not
believe me, nor harken unto my voice; for they will say Jehovah
hath not appeared to you. And Jehovah said unto him, What is that
in your hand? And he said a rod. And he said, Cast it upon the
ground. And Moses did so and it became a serpent; and Moses fled
from it (I would have also!). God said: Moses take it up by the
tail (I would think Moses was glad he did not tell him to grab
the head!). It became a rod once again in his hand. God said:
This will be a sign that they shall believe."
Isn't it wonderful what people can do when they turn themselves
over to God? Moses was a good man. He was a hard worker. He was
doing fine herding sheep, but God had a mission for him that would
be the greatest thing he would ever have the privilege of doing.
He was going to be the instrument through whom God would bring
his people out of bondage. Moses was 80 years of age. He had
spent 40 years in Egypt and 40 years herding sheep. Now, he would
spend the last 40 years of his life leading God's people to the
Promised Land.
When we submit ourselves to be "workers together with God"
great things can happen. God will use us to his glory. Moses became
the greatest leader the Old Testament people had ever known. He
became the second greatest character in history.
God asked Moses a simple question: "What is that in your hand?"
It was just a stick. But, God used that stick and Moses for his
own purpose! Moses stretched that stick out over the Red Sea and
it was divided. God can make small things mighty powerful. Weak
men can become strong by the help of God. We can do things we
never dreamed possible.
Perhaps, God is looking at you an saying: "What is that in
your hand?" God can use what ever we have. As long as we
use the lawful things for the good of God, Great things can happen.
Churches can grow and souls can be won--if we use what we have.
Jesus took 12 men and turned the world upside down. Think what
you can do with what God has given you. Also, remember the more
we have been given, the more he will expect from us.
