"THE HANDIWORK
OF GOD"
"The heavens
declare the glory of God; and the firmament shows his handiwork"(Psalm
19:1).
What a marvelous
Universe! Either it just happened; or there has to be an intelligent
agent who designed it. So far as I know these are the only two
propositions.
If you choose
to believe that it all just happened; then, there are serious
questions to be answered.
The earth and universe of worlds work in harmony. Could that just
have just happened? Look at man; is it possible that we just happened
to be the way we are? Why have two ears on opposite sides of the
head? Could it be that they both could have just happened to have
been on the same side? If that was the case, how would you hold
your glasses on your face?
Take a look at
your nose. What if the nostrils pointed up instead of down? Well
for one thing; if you sneezed you would blow your hat off; and
secondly, every time it rained you would almost drown!
Friends chance does not produce design or order. But, when we
look at the universe we see order. The Sun is 93 millions of miles
from the earth. If it were 120 million, the earth would freeze!
If the Sun was 60 millions of miles away, the earth would be a
furnace! The earth's atmosphere makes it possible for the Sun's
energy to raise millions of tons of water from the oceans. The
vapors are placed in the clouds; the clouds are carried by the winds
out over the earth and precious rain falls on a dry land
which makes life possible. Energy from the Sun activates the germ
of life in the seed, thus causing it to grow. Listen to a wise
man named Solomon as he was inspired by God to write:
"All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full;
unto the place from whence the rivers come, thither they return
again"(Ecclesiastes 1:7).
Who taught Solomon
this wonderful truth? How did he know about these things? The
only answer is "God inspired him."
Beautiful design is seen in all this--could it simply be by chance?
Take a look at the human body! The body contains 206 bones. Each
bone is hollow and manufactures marrow. Each cubic meter of the
body contains almost 5 million red blood cells and between 5-10
thousand white cells. The body produces almost 2 million blood
cells a second to replace those damaged in circulation. By the
way, without blood there could be no life as we know it. "The
life of the flesh is in the blood" (Leviticus 17:11). Our
body has One Hundred Thousand Miles of blood vessels and the blood
flows through the entire circulatory system in 26 seconds! In
our life span, the heart will pump some 2 million times! The brain
is a computer and for a computer to do what is in the brain; a
man would have to be greater in size than the Empire State building!
Am I making a good point? Read the words from David as he was
inspired to write:
"We are fearfully
and wonderfully made" (Psalm 139:14).
I aver: Man is
not a product of chance; he was made by an intelligent creator.
Things did not just happen!
