"THE
WORK OF CHRIST"
Today
there is much being said about the return of Christ and the millennium
kingdom. It is preached from house to house, in the pulpits and
over the air. It is being said that Christ did not fulfill all
the work he was to do the first time, so he is coming back to
finish his work.
The circumstances today are much as they were at the Lord's first
appearance. The Jews were under Roman rule. They cried for relief.
They expected the Messiah to come and set up an earthly kingdom
crushing the pagan foes.
Would it not be nice if people would just listen to the words
of the Bible? It is so clear that even a child can understand,
but we are determined that things will be as we see them...not
as God has said.
-
"I
have finished the work thou gavest me to do" -John 17:4.
-
"My
kingdom is not of this world" -John 18:36.
-
"The
kingdom of God comes not with observation: Neither shall they
say, Lo here! Or, there! For, behold, the kingdom of God is
Within You!" - Luke 17:20,21.
If you
will sincerely and carefully read the above passages, it will
become clear that Christ did fulfill his work and that the kingdom
would not be of a materialistic manner. The Lord's kingdom is spiritual.
The kingdom of God is within us.
Today the world is falling into the mighty grip of evil forces
that would destroy, maim and kill. Wars and rumors of wars will
ever be with us. Because of these matters, preachers come out
of the woodwork crying that the kingdom of God is almost here.
According to the words of Jesus, the kingdom has been here almost
2,000 years. Unless you want to take the position that Jesus did
not do what God sent him to do...though he said that he did all
the work God gave him to do!
Actually, the Lord is coming again but the day of the Lord will
come as a thief in the night. "The day of the Lord"
will come when people least expect it. They will be saying: "Peace
and safety" - I Thessalonians 5:2,3.
Christ did the work that God sent him to do. The only thing left
for Christ to do is to "Judge the world at his appearing"-2
Timothy 4:1,2. Christ is not coming to set up some earthly kingdom,
He is coming to raise the dead and judge the world in righteousness-John
5:28,29; 2 Corinthians 5:10.
